Creative Writing Scholarship 2012

If you are thinking of applying for the Creative Writing Scholarship here are some thoughts to guide your application:

- please put together a portfolio, of around 15 pieces of your very best writing

- the portfolio should contain as many different types of writing as possible: stories, poems, history, information, diaries, arguments, description, trip write ups and so on. Within that, if you submit several stories, try to write different kinds of stories – consider balancing a love story with a science fiction story, for example.

- we would like a mixture of handwritten and typed submissions

- you can submit work you have done in lessons or for homework, or work you have had published in a magazine, or that has won a competition. If you submit work you have done in a lesson it must be solely your own work. The bulk of the portfolio should be work you have done outside English lessons.

- you need to organise your portfolio with a contents page and a brief letter, addressed to the English department, saying why you are applying and what inspires you to write.

- your portfolio should be handed to Judy Seall no later than June 13th.

- your work overall and contribution during English lessons will also be taken into consideration.

- there may also be a short discussion about your work as part of the process.

Remember that your portfolio should show you at your very best, so have fun being creative and imaginative and we look forward to seeing your work!
