Dolphin School was founded in 1970 by Dr Ophelia Follett, an educational visionary. The ethos was simple; Dolphin School wanted children to be happy, independent and experience a very broad and stimulating education.
The school grew from small beginnings as a Montessori nursery, opening its doors to 25 children. The numbers attending the school eventually grew tenfold, with over 2,000 children having now passed through the school gates.
The founding principles remain the same and they are to inspire children to love learning and to become independent. Freedom to Learn is still the central tenet and Dolphin School’s unique cross-curricular field trip and pioneering walking trip programmes, remain staples of a Dolphin education that have been copied and widely embraced throughout England.
