Dolphin School’s Year Three class made their annual visit to the British Museum as part of their Classical Studies and Art/Architecture Programme. They are learning about ancient Athens with the goddess Athena as the centerpiece. They spent half the day learning about Greek temples and in particular her incredible Parthenon. This included sketching the centaurs on the metopes, part of the famous Elgin Marbles.

The rest of the day was spent studying Athena’s Panathenaic Games, which include the same events as the Ancient Olympics. They have already made pots in art based on the jars of olive oil which the victors were awarded, and are now planning their own games in the summer in honour of our Olympics.
