On Tuesday 18 October Year Five visited Hampton Court for a hands-on experience of life in England under Henry VIII. History teacher Adam Warner led the children around the palace and explained in vivid terms what it must have been like. After listening to tales of mess, smells, the 'house of easement' and 'gong scourers', the children decided they prefer the 21st century!

Some of our group were waited on at the top table in the Great Hall, others were promoted from ordinary peasants to yeoman, knights or even a lord and duchess, as they were entertained with stories about ghosts and beheadings by a gentleman of the court, who seemed to have lasted all these years!
