King Cobra

The King Cobras are mysterious creatures.  But would they be small when they're born? Could they kill a fully-grown elephant? Well, you could find out if you read this.

The King Cobra lives in lots of hot countries such as India, China, Malaysia and south east of Asia. They like to be in trees, land and water.  It must be freaky swimming with them because it could jump right out and kill you at any time.

The Cobra sometimes is pale, olive or a yellowy olive colour.  The cobras in India and have stripes across their body with body with yellow and black, the ones in China are black and brown.  That's how the people on TV tell them apart.

The Cobra's diet is mainly a lot of other snakes, both non-venomous such as pythons and even venomous snakes like an Indian Cobra which will even eat something bigger than it.  When it's hungry it will eat things smaller like birds, lizards, and rodents.  Having had its meal, the King Cobra will not need to eat for a good two months, because of its slow digestive system.  I would not be happy if I were him!  The King Cobra finds its food by licking the air.  The forked tongue picks up the smell and moves it to the top of the mouth.  It flickers its tongue to see which way the food is going.  The King Cobra is not the most venomous snake in the world but could inject enough venom in a bite to kill an adult Asian elephant in three hours if it bit on the trunk.  Wow! That's amazing, he must have a big appetite!

If the Cobra sees an enemy it will lift its body and it will make a horrible, bone chilling screech that will make the enemy go away.

It is the only snake in the world which builds a nest for its eggs, which it guards with all its might until its eggs hatch.  The baby is only one centimetre long when it is born.  That's tiny!

Cobras are deaf like all snakes so they sense the ground movement.  Snake charmers flutes they cannot hear but they are attracted by the movement.

So there's my information.  I really hope you enjoyed it and don't get any nightmares or anything!
