Matt Allwright, Class of 1982, came to Dolphin in 1977 at the age of seven. His Dolphin drama career included appearing as Caecilius in a Latin play, Job in Job, a Woodsman in As You Like It, Feste in Twelfth Night, a Town Councillor in the first The Pied Piper, and Le Vaniteur in the second Le Petit Prince which toured secondary schools and impressed the staffs with Dolphin French accents.
From Bluecoat he went to Manchester to study English where he was involved in a play every term. After graduation he spent three years teaching in Japan as part of the Japan Exchange Teaching programme (JET).
A postgraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism led him to the BBC in Southampton, where he laboured for two years in Radio and Television. In 1997 Matt worked on Watchdog with Anne Robinson, eventually fronting the show in 1999. In 2001 he started presenting the BBC1 consumer investigative programme, Rogue Traders, the show with which he is most closely associated. It’s now in its sixth series.
