Children with English as an Additional language are welcomed at Dolphin and we have a team of support staff who are experienced in teaching EASL if this is required. We work closely with the parents to identify the particular needs of each child and an individual programme of support can be set up. As far as possible the child is integrated with their peers and the form teachers, and Individual Needs Coordinator, monitor the situation closely.
Depending on the degree of support required, the child may find that learning an additional language such as French or Latin is too much, and the child’s timetable can be adapted accordingly.
The school works closely with the parents to ensure that the child feels supported and secure and a regular system of checks can be set up in liaison with the family.
Having children who speak an additional language is seen as a positive benefit to the school and on occasions such as ‘International Day’ we celebrate our linguistic diversity!
