WEEKLY CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO. 353

Monday 14 January – Sunday 20 January 2008

ISSUED Friday 11 January

ALL

Dolphin is one of only 12 schools out of the 1,050 which took part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival, the UK’s largest youth drama festival, who have been asked to perform at the 2008 Temple Festival in London. The children will participate in the opening ceremony at 10.30am and will then perform extracts from an abridged version of Shakespeare’s The Tempest’ at various times on Saturday 19 January. This is a great honour and incredible achievement. The performances will take place in Middle Temple Hall, the venue for the premier of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night!

May we remind everyone bringing children to school in the morning that they cannot be dropped off until 7.45am. Before that time there are no staff available to be responsible for the children. (Unless part of a trip arrangement)

Please remember that your child will need a warm coat for outside play. Hats and gloves are important when the weather is especially cold.

We are reinforcing the need for hand washing, particularly in the light of the current stomach bug that is sweeping the country. Please encourage your child to continue this at home and please do not send your child back to school following a bout of this illness until 48 hours after their symptoms have gone.

Dolphin has never yet shut because of bad weather but if you are concerned in the morning please do not ring the school. Radio Berkshire (tune into 104.4FM and 104.1FM) will be broadcasting a list of the schools which are closed and we will make sure they know. If your children are unable to attend school, or will be late for school, because of the weather, please only ring us after 10.00am to keep the telephone lines free in case any of the teaching staff need to ring us.

The school chess tournament is on Thursday 7 February, NOT Saturday 2 February as written in the calendar.

Last chance for The Importance of being a McGurgle DVD - if you would like to order a copy of the recording, please put your name on the list in Reception and send a cheque in for £16.99 (dvd) or £12.99 (vhs) payable to November Whiskey Productions and hand in to the office for Mr Leakey's attention.

Reprints ordered of pictures from The Importance of Being a McGurgle have been sent home with the children. If you have any queries please contact Claire Smith.

Club lists for the spring term are on the board. Please see Vivien in the school office with any queries or alterations rather than the teacher running the club.

FunRaisers meeting on Thursday 15 January at 7.30pm in the History room. All welcome.

There are a few places available in the Monday Climbing wall club after half term. Please see Vivien in the office if you would like to apply.

May we remind parents that half a term’s notice is required for Judo and Music should your child wish to stop their tuition.
