WEEKLY CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO. 354

Monday 21 January – Sunday 27 January 2008

ISSUED Friday 18 January

ALL

Dolphin is one of only 12 schools out of the 1,050 which took part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival, the UK’s largest youth drama festival, who have been asked to perform at the 2008 Temple Festival in London. The children will participate in the opening ceremony at 10.30am and will then perform extracts from an abridged version of Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’ at various times on Saturday 19 January. This is a great honour and incredible achievement. The performances will take place in Middle Temple Hall, the venue for the premier of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night!

Next Friday is Hot Lunch day!

To cheer up this rather gloomy, wet January the Hot Lunch will have a Rainbow theme with very bright colours and music. The children are invited to wear their brightest and most colourful clothes. All the usual favourite foods will be there including a special FREE fruit and vegetable platter all the colours of the rainbow! This time the Hot Lunch will raise money for Water Aid.

CAKES NEEDED! As usual we rely on delicious cake donations which are gratefully received in the Hall on the morning of the Hot Lunch. Thank you.

The children raised the grant total of £613.86 at the charity fair before Christmas and this will be donated to this year’s school charity Water Aid. Many thanks for all your support.

A family update form has been posted to all parents this week. Please check the contents and return the form to the school office by 22 February.

Any unwanted DVDs (or good quality VHS) films would be gratefully accepted to add to our small collection for wet breaks in the hall and elsewhere. PG or U certificate. Please hand into the office for Mr Leakey's attention. Many thanks. We would also welcome donations of duplo for use in the hall at wet break.

The school chess tournament is on Thursday 7 February, NOT Saturday 2 February as written in the calendar.

Cheques for DVD of Play "The Importance of being a McGurgle" - please would you make cheques out to 'November Whiskey Productions' as soon as possible, and hand them in to the school office for Mr Leakey's attention, if you have not already done so. It would help if we could send all the cheques off together.

There are a few places available in the Monday Climbing wall club after half term. Please see Vivien in the office if you would like to apply.

We would like to inform parents that the School’s Child Protection Policy and Procedures are drafted with reference to government and local authority guidelines. They are updated annually and are available to be reviewed on request.

May we remind drivers not to hamper progress through the school car park by blocking through ways.

Tempest Company

The school minibus will depart at 8am on Saturday 19 January for our performances at Middle Temple. We will be taking part in the opening ceremony at 10.30, and performing extracts from The Tempest in the afternoon.
