WEEKLY CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO. 413

Monday 21  September – Sunday 27 September 2009

ISSUED Friday 18 September 2009

ALL

Don’t forget to come along to Adventures in Reading with the highly respected Pru Goodwin on Monday 21 September at 19.30 in the hall.   A letter has been sent home with all the children, and information about the event is also on the school website.

All Year Group Eco Warrior Representatives

The first meeting will be held on Tuesday 22 September starting at 12.20 in English 2 (above Reception Desk).   Please bring your lunch along.

Susie Fison has availability for flute lessons.   If your child is interested, please drop a note into the school reception.

THANK YOU!

A huge thank you to the parents who have transformed the playground into a fun, colourful area. We all appreciate the time taken to improve our environment.

Science Week and Science Challenge

Thank you to all those parents who have offered to come and speak to the children about how they use science in their professions.

We are still hoping that some of you will be able to help with our Crime Scene investigations on

1 October with Year 6. Please see Mrs. Lawson if you are available between 08.00 to 12.30 on that day.

Plus

The Science Department is laying down the challenge to all you creative people out there.

We are offering prizes for artwork that depicts an inventor or an invention or it can be an idea of an invention yet to be discovered. Be it a picture, a collage or a 3D model we look forward to seeing your exhibits by 1 October.

The following school policies are now published on our website: Safeguarding children; Curriculum; Discipline; Exclusion; Reward and Sanctions; Anti-Bullying; Health and Safety on School Visits and our Complaints Procedure, which includes the number of formal complaints before a panel in the last school year (none).   The arrangements for the education and welfare provision for pupils with statements and for whom English is an additional language are available on request.   The Staff List and Qualifications and Destinations of Leavers are also available to view.

Please note that Dolphin pupils are not allowed to bring mobile phones to school.   Special circumstances will need to be discussed with Chris Leakey and, if agreed, phones may be left with Vivien in the school office for the day.

If your child needs to take medicine during the school day, please bring it to the school reception with your written permission and the dates and times it should be given.

The 2009/10 Extended Synopsis are published on the website within the Dolphin Community Section under Teaching and Learning.   You will need to be logged on to access this information.   Log on details will remain unchanged.   Please be aware that the Years 1, 2 and 3 French Synopsis has been changed.

Please may we remind parents that the children from Year 3 upwards should have all the necessary equipment for lessons in their pencil cases.   The contents of these should include:

·          a fountain pen or other handwriting pen (not a biro)

·          pencils and  sharpener, colouring pencils

·          rubber, and a ruler.

·          a glue stick is useful

·          children in Years 7and 8 should also have a scientific calculator.

There are children in school with nut allergies.   Please do not send nuts or nut spreads into school.

FUNRAISERS

A reminder that the FunRaisers “Welcome BBQ” to mark the start of the new school year takes place TODAY, 18 September, from 17.00-19.00.  FunRaisers are holding their AGM on 5 October.   Please do come along if you can.
