A Midsummer Night’s Dream/Science Week
On 18 November at 19.00 the Shakespeare in Schools group from Years 6,7,and 8 will do a repeat performance of their much acclaimed production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This is twinned with a further opportunity to show you the highlights of the Science Week activities together with guest speakers.
The photographer will be in school to take individual photographs of the children on Tuesday 17 November in the morning. Children will be called for in turn, so should go to registration as normal.
The 02 Choir tickets and T-shirts are available for collection from a member of staff in the Meadow Reception. We must ask please that parents collect these, not the children.
FUNRAISERS
The Hot Lunch for this term has been moved to Thursday 3 December due to play commitments on the original date. Thank you to Eco Warriors who are arranging for some locally sourced produce to be added to the menu.
Tickets for the Retro Night on Friday 27 November, 19.30 for a 20.00 start, are now on sale at the school reception at a cost of £12.50, which includes a hot supper. This looks set to be great fun, with retro themed food, music, entertainment and costumes! Please note you can pre-order wine when purchasing tickets.
The next FunRaiser meeting is Monday 23 November at 19.30 in the History room.
Clubs lists for the spring term will be going home on Monday 16 November. Please return your forms to the school office (no forms accepted before 07.45 on Tuesday 17 November). Deadline for return of forms is Friday 20 November.
If your child no longer wishes to do a club this term, please do not forget to inform the office and ask to have him/her removed from the club list.
We are now able to send text messages so please check your phones for match information if the weather is bad.
Dolphin has never yet shut because of bad weather. Our normal procedure in bad weather is to open at the usual time and shut at 15.30, cancelling clubs and afterschool care to enable everyone to get home early. If you are concerned in the morning please do not ring the school. Radio Berkshire (tune into 104.4FM and 104.1FM) will be broadcasting a list of schools which are closed and we will make sure they know. We will also publish the plan for the day on ‘today’s notice’ on our website as soon as possible. If your children are unable to attend school, or will be late for school, because of the weather, please only ring us after 10.00 to keep the telephone lines free in case any of the teaching staff need to ring us.
If you are considering applying to public schools such as Eton, Harrow, Marlborough College, Rugby, St Paul’s and Winchester College or Wycombe Abbey, please note that they may require an early registration for 13+ entry.
Eton – you may register your child any time before the age of 10 years 6 months.
Harrow – you may register your child up to 3 years in advance of entry, ideally by the summer of Year 5.
Marlborough College – you may register your child any time after the summer of Year 4, and definitely by the September of Year 7.
Rugby – you should register your child by the Spring of Year 5.
St Paul’s (for boys) – you should register your child by May of Year 5.
Winchester College – you may register your child from the age of 8, and definitely by the summer of Year 5.
Wycombe Abbey – you should register your child by the summer of Year 6.
INFORMATION & REMINDERS
(Much of the information in this section is either statutory or is passed on to you at the request of our insurers /other advisors)
Would all parents please note that they must sign in the children who arrive late at school and have not been signed in.
To ensure that we comply with ever increasing statutory requirements and to keep you fully informed, we have posted two more notices onto the school website:
- a Data Protection Notice
- a policy on School Attendance
The Attendance Policy reminds you in detail of the procedure we would like you to follow if your child is absent from school.
May we remind everyone bringing children to school in the morning that they cannot be dropped off until 07.45. Before that time there are no staff available to be responsible for the children (unless part of a trip arrangement).
Please remember that once children pass out of the school grounds (through the gate at the Meadow Reception) with their parents they become their parents’ responsibility. Whilst doing our best to ensure safe practice in the school car park, we cannot be responsible for the children in that area. Parents of younger children, that is Nursery and Reception classes, whose children are delivered to them by the school staff are responsible for them from then onwards. Any subsequent play in the climbing frame area must be supervised by their parents. The sky scales are out of bounds before and after school.
