WEEKLY CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO. 424

Monday 28 December – Sunday 10 January 2010

ISSUED Friday 18 December 2009

ALL

Season’s Greetings to all Dolphin families!

We would like to wish you and your families a happy and restful break and look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday 5 January. We would also like to extend our good wishes to any who are leaving us this term.

Please take all children’s belongings home from their lockers/pegs at the end of term.

The Charity Fair organised by your children raised £700! Thank you so much for your support with this – it was a truly memorable event. The money will go to the Thames Valley Adventure Playground for the Disabled which is this year’s chosen charity.

The Delphic Oracle and calendar have been sent home this week. Please let Vivien know if you have not received it.

Would an enthusiastic parent like to volunteer to join our Spring 2010 Cross Country club? It involves assisting every week on Mondays, 15.35 – 16.35. Volunteers please contact the school office.

Photographs from the Year 5 play will be on view in Reception at the beginning of term, with an order form. These and many more are also available to view in the Image Gallery of the School Website. £2 for a 4x6 and £3 for a 4x7

If anyone would like printed up photographs from the Foundation or Year 1/2 Plays from the Image Gallery of the School Website please drop a request into the school office with a note of the serial number of the photographs from the website. £2 for a 4x6 and £3 for a 4x7.

The club lists for the Spring term are on the board. If you have a query or change regarding the bookings please speak to Vivien in the office rather than the teacher running the club.

Singing lessons will recommence the week of January 11. There will be no singing lessons the week of January 18 as Mrs. Maltese is unavoidably absent. These lessons will be made up later in the term.

Judo will also recommence the second week of term, on Tuesday 12 January.

Please remember that your child will need a warm coat for outside play. Hats and gloves are important when the weather is especially cold.

Dolphin has never yet shut because of bad weather. Our normal procedure in bad weather is to open at the usual time and shut at 15.30, cancelling clubs and afterschool care to enable everyone to get home early. If you are concerned in the morning please do not ring the school. Radio Berkshire (tune into 104.4FM and 104.1FM) will be broadcasting a list of schools which are closed and we will make sure they know. We will also publish the plan for the day on ‘today’s notice’ on our website as soon as possible. If your children are unable to attend school, or will be late for school, because of the weather, please only ring us after 10.00 to keep the telephone lines free in case any of the teaching staff need to ring us.

FUNRAISERS

The Children’s school disco will now be on 15 January.

INFORMATION & REMINDERS

(Much of the information in this section is either statutory or is passed on to you at the request of our insurers/other advisors)

May we take this opportunity to remind parents that fees for the Spring Term 2010 are due on 1 January 2010.

YEAR 2

Year 2 will begin their recorder lessons in the Spring term. Recorders can be bought through school next term, but you may like to make it an extra Christmas present!

YEAR 4

Trip to the Ashmolean on 14 January. I have two drivers. Thank you, but it would be helpful to have three or four parents to help in the museum. You would have to drive yourself to Oxford I’m afraid. If you would like to come, please let me know. Miss P.

YEARS 5-8

If there are any more pupils wishing to go on a walking trip in the summer, I need a short letter from you as soon as possible explaining why you would like to go. This letter also needs to be counter-signed by a parent/guardian. Adam Warner

YEAR 7

Trip to Science Museum on Thursday 7 January, has been postponed due to weather conditions.

YEARS 7 & 8

The sports department would like to arrange a short cricket/tennis tour to Gloucestershire for Years 7 & 8. This would be from Friday 21– Saturday 22 May 2010. We would stay at a Youth Hostel and the approximate cost of the tour would be £35 per pupil. As we will not be selecting the participants until the Summer term I realise this is difficult, but could you let me know whether you are available. Many thanks. Adam Warner.
