WEEKLY UPDATE AND CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO. 444
Monday 21 June – Sunday 27 June 2010
ISSUED Friday 18 June2010
ALL
Welcome back and many thanks to all staff, parents and children who made our recent field and walking trips so successful. Our best wishes go out to Years 7 and 8 who are shortly off to Snowdonia and the Alps respectively!
You are cordially invited to the forthcoming school concerts in the hall:
Senior Concert (5,6,7 & 8) Wednesday 23 June starts 7.30pm.
Junior Concert (Reception to 4) Monday 28 June 1.30-3pm.
Reminder that with the onset of hotter weather, the children will need sun cream protection and hats. Dolphin summer hats (in House colours) are available to buy from Reception for £5.
A reminder that FunRaisers have a suggestions box in the School Reception.
Would any parent like to drive a car (not with children in it) to accompany the Snowdonia trip from Friday 25 – Tuesday 29 June?
House Music: Congratulations to all who participated on Monday 24th May, it was a glorious afternoon with excellent musical performances. Many thanks to the judges Tim Dean Lewis, Virginia Mc Murtrie and Lucy Head. Well Done Lancaster for your winning performances.
Chess Tuition: We are considering running an extra chess club . Thomas Rendle, an international Master who lives in the UK, has expressed an interest in running the club. The cost will be billed as usual through the school billing system. A minimum of six children are needed for the club to run. The cost will be in the region of £50 per term. If your child is interested, please contact Mrs. Lawson at school. Thomas has a web site which parents can view at www.thomasrendle.co.uk.
We have a number of cake boxes and tins which have been brought in by the children for various events. These will be available in Reception for you to collect during next week.
SPORTS DAYS
Cottage Sports Day (Rec & Year 1) will be held on Monday 12 July 10.30-12.00 and Nursery Sports on Wednesday 14 July at 10.00 – 12.00. Letters with further details will be sent home.
Junior Sports Day (Years 2,3 & 4) –Friday 9 July 10.30-12.30.
You may take Juniors home after Sports Day, if you sign them out in the School Reception, there will be lessons for those who remain in school
Senior Sports Day (Years 5, 6, 7 & 8) Friday 9 July 13.30-15.30
Years 2-8
Please feel free to bring a picnic lunch to share with your child on the field. Ice creams and ice lollies will be on sale between the two sports sessions.
Parents often ask if siblings may attend their brother’s and sister’s sports days. We would prefer that siblings remain in lessons and do not accompany their brothers and sisters. We wish to keep each sports day special to that particular age group. Children from different age groups attending their sibling’s sports days have in the past been rather a distraction to the event.
Sports Day Clothing Years 2-8: The children will need to wear a T-shirt (without a design) in their house colours (white - York, green – Tudor, red – Lancaster and yellow – Plantagenet). (Year 2’s new houses are to be announced.) They should also wear the rest of their normal PE kit (shorts, tracksuit tops and bottoms) and bring a sun hat, ideally in house colours, which may be purchased from reception. The children should have suncream and water.
TERM ENDS – Wednesday 21 July
Reception & Yr 1 11.00
Yrs 2&3 11.30
Yrs 4,5&6 12 noon
Yrs 7&8 12.30
You may collect the older children earlier if it is convenient (please sign them out at the School Reception) but please collect the younger children on time.
INFORMATION & REMINDERS
(Much of the information in this section is either statutory or is passed on to you at the request of our insurers/other advisors)
Would all parents please note: if you bring non-Dolphin children into school, those children must be supervised by you at all times.
May we remind parents that it is never safe to leave children or valuables in cars in the car park. The school car park is unfortunately, as are many other car parks, constantly being watched by thieves. The police and our security company are aware of this and do make spot checks. We also have periodic meetings with the crime prevention staff from the Berkshire Police Force. May we therefore please ask you to heed the notices of the school car park and our security reminders.
May we please remind everyone that dogs are not allowed on the School Grounds
May we remind you that we wrote to all families in January regarding Travel cover for schools and enclosed a copy of the policy summary. The full policy document is held in Linda Charlesworth’s office for inspection whenever you wish. Our insurers request that we twice yearly draw your attention to the exclusions (which are listed on the summary document). Should you have any queries please contact Veronica Gibbs or Linda Charlesworth.
Visas: Please note that all visa arrangements are the responsibility of a child’s parents or guardians. Parents of children with non-EU passports must ensure that their children can exit from and re-enter the UK. If the above assurance is not in place your child may be prevented from travelling with the school group. If you are in any doubt that your child can travel you must notify the school and contact the trip leader or Linda Charlesworth. We will then be able to apply to use the List of Travelers Visa Waiver Scheme.
