WEEKLY CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO. 420

Monday 23 November – Sunday 29 November 2009

ISSUED Friday 20 November 2009

ALL

We are very lucky to have the prize winning ( Kate Greenaway 2005 and 2008 and others) author Emily Gravett visiting the school on Monday 23rd November. She will be talking to a range of years during the day and then staying on to sign her books until 16.30 in the Maths Rooms. A large selection of her books will be available for purchase.

Dance Club (3-8) Friday lunchtimes. If you would like to do Dance with Rachel Osborne please sign up on the list in Reception.

Club lists for the Spring Term went home on Monday 16 November, if you haven’t returned your list yet please drop it in to the school office as soon as possible. The lists will be put up on the club board by the last week of term.

FUNRAISERS

Dolphin’s Eco Warriors are arranging this term’s hot lunch on Thursday December 3rd. They have sourced some delicious local produce from Wysipig in Arborfield, Cross Lanes Fruit Farm in Reading, Twyford Allotment and Stanlake Park to supplement the normal menu.

A few tables remain for the Retro Night on Friday 27th November. Please purchase tickets, which include supper, from the school reception. This looks set to be great fun, with canapés on arrival, a music quiz plus other entertainment and not forgetting those 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s costumes! Please note you can pre-order wine when purchasing tickets.

The next FunRaiser meeting is Monday 23rd November at 7.30pm in the History room.”

The gift wrap order has arrived and is ready for collection in the School Reception.

A reminder that the school will be closed for the day on Friday 4 December. There will, however be a play rehearsal for all Year 5 on that day. A schedule for the rehearsal will be sent out shortly.

Term ends on Friday 18th December at the following times:

Nursery, Reception and Year 1 11am

Yrs 2 & 3 11.30am

Yrs 4, 5 & 6 12 noon

Yrs 7 & 8 12.30pm

Please take the older children earlier if it is convenient (they will need to be signed out at Reception) but please collect the younger ones on time so that the car park does not get too congested.

We are now able to send text messages so please check your phones for match information if the weather is bad.

Dolphin has never yet shut because of bad weather. Our normal procedure in bad weather is to open at the usual time and shut at 15.30, cancelling clubs and afterschool care to enable everyone to get home early. If you are concerned in the morning please do not ring the school. Radio Berkshire (tune into 104.4FM and 104.1FM) will be broadcasting a list of schools which are closed and we will make sure they know. We will also publish the plan for the day on ‘today’s notice’ on our website as soon as possible. If your children are unable to attend school, or will be late for school, because of the weather, please only ring us after 10.00 to keep the telephone lines free in case any of the teaching staff need to ring us.

If you are considering applying to public schools such as Eton, Harrow, Marlborough College, Rugby, St Paul’s and Winchester College or Wycombe Abbey, please note that they may require an early registration for 13+ entry.

Eton – you may register your child any time before the age of 10 years 6 months.

Harrow – you may register your child up to 3 years in advance of entry, ideally by the summer of Year 5.

Marlborough College – you may register your child any time after the summer of Year 4, and definitely by the September of Year 7.
