WEEKLY CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO. 418

Monday 26 October – Sunday 15 November 2009

ISSUED Friday 23 October 2009

ALL

The school is closed for the next two weeks for Half Term. We hope that you have an enjoyable break and our best wishes also go to all those staff, parents and children who are about to embark on one of the school trips to Boulogne, Northumbria or North Wales. School reopens on Monday 9 November.

Last chance to order your Christmas Gift Wrap! If you would like to order items, please complete the order form and leave it with your cheque, made payable to FunRaisers at Reception. Please return all order forms BEFORE HALF TERM. Thank you.

FunRaisers will be holding a Retro Night on Friday 27 November, 19.30 for a 20.00 start. Tickets are £12.50, which includes a hot supper with a retro twist! Tickets will be on sale after Half Term.

The photographer will be in school to take individual photographs of the children on Tuesday 17 November.

At this time of year the Sunday Times produces its Parent Power league tables. You will find that we do no enter our details in line with IAPS policy, which is as follows:

IAPS is opposed to league tables of schools based on the narrow criteria of test results. It believes that one of the great virtues of its schools is the breadth of their educational provision, both curricular and non-curricular. Tests do not provide a true reflection of all that is on offer in prep schools.

Along with the majority of IAPS schools we no longer submit the key stage tests for external marking, although we will still use the national curriculum levels as a bench mark for pupil progress, as you will see on the reports for our older children in the core subjects.

We believe that our specialist teaching and facilities, small teaching groups and breadth of curriculum result in high educational standards and provide the all-round excellence that is at the heart of IAPS schools.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream/Science Week

On 18 November Years 6,7,and 8 will do a repeat performance of their much acclaimed production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This is twinned with a further opportunity to show you the highlights of the Science Week activities together with guest speakers. We expect this evening event to begin at 19.30 and will let you know after Half Term if we need to alter the time.

A reminder that the Orthoptist from the Royal Berks Hospital will be visiting Dolphin on Monday 9 November to test the Reception Class children’s eyesight. Parents of the children involved have already been written to.

Please note that all visa arrangements are the responsibility of a child’s parents or guardians. Parents of children with non-EU passports must ensure that their children can exit from and re-enter the UK. If the above assurance is not in place your child may be prevented from travelling with the school group. If you are in any doubt that your child can travel you must notify the school and contact the Trip Leader or Linda Charlesworth. We will then apply to use the List of Travellers Visa Waiver Scheme.

If your child is using their passport to travel with a Dolphin school party please ensure that you keep a photocopy of the child’s passport in your home.

On the first weekend of Half Term, 24 & 25 October, the main school entrance gates from the road will be partially blocked each day.
