WEEKLY CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO. 415

Monday 5 October – Sunday 11 October 2009

ISSUED Friday 30 September 2009

ALL

Science Week and Science Challenge

A huge thank you to all those parents who have participated in this week’s Science Week. Thanks to you all for making it such a great success. Congratulations to all those who participated in the dressing-up and the Inventions Challenge. It was a magnificent effort.

If your child is absent due to illness please telephone or email the school office on the morning of the first day of absence. If you need to take your child out of school for any other reason please drop in a note to the school office. For your children’s safety we need to know where they are during term time.

If your child is late for morning registration please would you remind him to come to the office to sign in, or come in yourself to register him.

Will all parents please note that if for any reason you cannot collect your children on time, they must go to After School Care (Reception to Year 5) or Homework Club (Years 6-8).

Judy Seall is looking for any old brown suitcases. Please have a search in your attics and bring them in as soon as possible.

The FunRaisers’ AGM is on Monday 5th October from 7.30pm in the History room. Please could Clippers try to come along as a certain level of attendance is required for the AGM. If anyone else wishes to find out more about FunRaisers and their activities please do come and join us at our meetings.

If you are already an online Amazon shopper, or you are thinking of becoming one, you may not be aware that you can benefit the children and support the funds for the school library by clicking through to Amazon from the link on Shopping at Amazon in the Community page of our website. If you already shop at Amazon then your account will still be recognised by your computer when you click on the link. We will then receive a small commission for each order placed in this way. Worth remembering when you start your Christmas shopping!! Anyone can access Amazon in this way so perhaps encourage your friends and relatives to access Amazon via our website as well.

We are once again collecting Books for Schools tokens. From 13 September until 6 December there will be 12 tokens to collect each week in The Times and The Sunday Times: one each day from Monday to Friday, three on Saturday and four on Sunday. If you are able to collect tokens, we would be grateful if you would drop them into the box in the Meadow Building Reception.

We are also continuing to collect the Nestle Box Top tokens for books. The box for these is in the Meadow Building Reception.

To simplify the procedure for the late return of library books, children will now be given two reminders then the cost of the book will be added to the next bill. We are keen to promote reading and so the simpler the procedure of dealing with late books the better.

Children are going to be reminded in assembly to keep their school bags as light in weight as possible. May we ask parents to help children to only select their books and equipment required for the current day.

Dolphin continues to be targeted by break-ins to our outer buildings. Please do not leave any valuables in outer locker rooms and huts, or anywhere in the school. Police and our Security Company are carrying out random checks. We would like to make it clear to parents that pupils’ possessions are not insured whilst they are on the school premises (they are insured whilst they are on trips). Your household insurer will be able to advise you whether your policy covers loss of items whilst at school and, if not, whether such cover could be made available on your existing policy. Our Insurance Brokers, HSBC, can provide you with an annual policy if you wish. If you would like further details, please contact Linda Charlesworth.
