WEEKLY UPDATE AND CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO.486

Monday 19 September-Sunday 25 September 2011

ISSUED Friday 16 September 2011

ALL

Come and meet the author, Chris Wormell, on Monday 19 September at our Book Fair.   He will be working with various year groups all day and hopefully signing books straight after school.   An information sheet and money envelope should have come home with your child today, ready for the Book Fair on Monday.

Leighton Park Football Tournament, Saturday 8 October – Dolphin is fielding an U11 and U13 side.   We would like to have our strongest teams available.   I realise that some boys usually play club football, but it would be nice if they could represent the school as it is a one-off event.   I have already sent team sheets home with those who have been selected, as clubs may need to be informed in advance.   Many thanks.   Adam.

The Macbeth (Shakespeare in Schools Festival) Marketing Team are planning an interactive game for all the children and need as many straight-sided old pegs as possible.   If you have any unwanted straight-sided clothes pegs, please would you leave them in a marked bag in Reception as soon as possible, and by 23 September at the latest.   Please note that you will not get them back!

If you have any Playmobil which is no longer played with and you would be happy to donate to the school, our Reception class would be very grateful.

If you have not yet taken a look at our website, www.dolphinschool.net we hope you will do so.   This site is an important source of information.   The username and password details can be obtained from the office. The weekly newsletter can be viewed here.

The FunRaisers AGM will be held on Wednesday 28 September, 7.30pm in the History Room.  Please would all clippers try to attend. Thank you.

Choir will recommence on Tuesday 27 September.

We are pleased that Lucy Head has taken over the administration of music lessons and running of the choir.   Please leave information for her regarding music lesson queries and requests to start an instrument at the school office and we will put them in her pigeon hole.

Lucy’s first brass lessons this term will be on Friday 23 September.   Thereafter lessons will resume as usual on Tuesdays.

There will be another second hand PE kit sale on Tuesday 20 September.

In an effort to get more boys and girls playing rugby, here are some useful contacts.   All these clubs run junior teams on Sunday mornings.   Practices start in September.

                -   Reading RFC (U6 – U17) Amanda Newman 0118 969 6592    youthchairman@Readingrfc.co.uk

                -   Maidenhead RFC (U7 – U17) Julian Rainford    07787 993733    julian.rainford@btinternet.com

                -   Redingensians RFC 0118 969 5259

Year 6, 7 and 8 girls are now allowed to wear a navy skort in PE lessons.   The PE Department holds a stock of these to buy at a cost of £13 (this is cost price straight from the manufacturer).   A Base Layer (long sleeved, navy top) is also available for all pupils to buy if they wish.   These cost £14.  Samples and order forms for both items are available in Reception.

Opro Mouthguards are coming into school on Tuesday 27 September.   These mouthguards are fitted by a qualified dentist.   Pupils will be given brochures about Opro soon.

Actors in Macbeth are required for rehearsals during the weekend of 24 & 25 September.  The marketing team is not required but they are very welcome to attend if they so wish.  Please bring along snacks, drinks and lots of energy.  It is very important that all actors attend these rehearsals as our performance dates are very close.  Thank you.

Unfortunately, the theatre company has had to cancel its performance of The Terrible Infants on 4 October.   We will now be going to see the production on Monday 3 October.   Please let Judy know if your child is unable to make it.   We will leave Dolphin at 6.00pm and return to school by approximately 10.00pm, but I will confirm our return time once I know the running times of the show.   They should eat supper before we leave school, and are welcome to bring no more than £7.50 to buy an ice cream and a theatre programme.   Judy

YEAR 8

The Year 8 girls will be having their first HPV injection on Tuesday 20 September.
