WEEKLY UPDATE AND CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO.493

Monday 21 November – Sunday 27 November 2011

ISSUED Friday 18 November 2011

ALL

Club lists for the Spring term 2012 will be distributed to the children next week on Tuesday 22 November and also emailed to parents. Please either return the club list after 7.45am on Wednesday 23 November or email the list back (not both!). The emails will be counted as arriving at 9.00am. It is possible that if not enough children initially sign up for a club that we will not be able to run it.

Singing Pupils: If you would like your son/daughter to participate in the Woodley Music Festival on 17 and 18 March 2012, please drop a note into Reception for Mrs. Maltese by 5 December.

FunRaisers:

Thank you to Year 5 and Reception for this week’s Hot Lunch and to the many volunteers. The children enjoyed themselves as ever.

The next FunRaisers’ meeting is Thursday 1 December, 7.30pm, in the History Room.

There are a few spaces left for the Christmas Wreath making on 14 December at 7.30pm. Tickets are £20 and include tuition and materials for the festive wreath you will create and take home to keep. There will be complimentary mulled wine and mince pies available. Tickets are available in the school Reception.

Finally, FunRaisers are delighted to be hosting a comedy night on Friday 20 January. Ginny Davis, a performer and prize-winning writer, will be presenting her seriously funny monologue Ten days ... that shook the kitchen! revealing the diary secrets of a misfit, midlife, middle-class mum. We expect tickets to be popular for this event so please watch out for further details coming soon.

Gabriella Eddy will be in on Wednesday 23 instead of Monday 21 next week. This change is for one week only.

Due to preparations for school plays, judo has been cancelled on 6 and 13 December

If your child will be sitting Common Entrance as a requirement for entry into their next school either at 11+ or 13+, we will enter the child, when you request us to do so, and an invoice will be sent to you.

Individual photo order forms have been sent home with the children. Please check their bags for these. Please place your order direct with Tempest, either by post or on-line as detailed on the form. Thank you.

Please return any Dolphin football shirts to Adam. We seem to be missing several shirts from the new set of strips.

Over the last few weeks there have been several incidences of cars being damaged in the school car parks. Please, if you see anyone whom you consider to be suspicious, do not confront them but report the incident to Meadow Reception or Linda Charlesworth

We are extremely grateful to all our CPC drivers (and your patience in the face of increasing legislation); without you we would not be able to function in the same way as a school. Please may we make a plea for new volunteers to join our “band of experts”? Packs including all the required forms and an outline of the whole process are available from Meadow Reception. Many drivers tell us how much they enjoy the School trips and the company of the children and staff! This is just a small return for the enthusiasm and commitment shown by our drivers.

RECEPTION

May we remind Reception Class parents that on 25 November in the morning audiologists from the Royal Berkshire Hospital are coming to test the children’s hearing. Parents have already been notified by letter.

The children are going to the Natural History Museum on Thursday 24 November, leaving at 8.00a.m and returning at 3.30 pm and will need a lunch in a disposable carrier, warm coat and sensible shoes. PLEASE NOTE THE EARLIER START TIME.

YEARS 1 & 2

Parents should have received their invitation to the Parents Evening on Tuesday 22 November 6.30-8.30pm in the Meadow Building. There is a further evening for Year One parents on Thursday 24 November at the same time and location.

YEARS 1 – 8

Last chance to sign up for the rugby coaching course at Dolphin school from Wednesday 4 January to Friday 6 January. This is definitely going ahead as we have already attracted over 25 boys, but more would be great! The coaches have also promised a guest appearance on one of the days from a present WASPS player!

YEAR 3

The children are going to the Natural History Museum Tuesday 22 November and will need a lunch in a disposable carrier, warm coat and sensible shoes.

YEARS 6,7 & 8

Children's Literature Quiz - Many children have applied to represent Dolphin at the regional finals on Friday 25 November in Oxford. Congratulations to Tom, Immy, Lawrence and Aiyana who will be representing Dolphin in the Year 7/8 team. Also, congratulations to Tommy, Anna, Toby and Tom who will be representing Year 6 in The Apprentices. Letters have been sent home to those children with all the relevant information.

YEAR 7

Year 7 will be attending a session to learn basic First Aid skills on Monday morning (21 November). We will then build upon this training with a slightly more advanced/refresher course when the children are in Year 8.
