WEEKLY UPDATE AND CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO.482

Monday 4 July - Sunday 10July 2011

ISSUED Friday 1 July 2011

ALL

There are still some free tickets available, from Reception, for our family evening of poetry and fun with the dragon-loving poet, Nick Toczek, on Monday 4 July. Please refer to the letter which was sent home for all necessary information. Vivien will have copies if the letter has gone astray. Nick will also be running writers’ workshops for various year groups throughout the day on Monday.

Thank you to Years 4 and 8 for organising Hot Lunch last week and to those of you who kindly left cakes in the hall. The children always look forward to these occasions. If you haven’t helped out at a Hot Lunch, and would like to, then please do speak to your class Clipper.

Sports Days:

Nursery Sports Day will be held on Tuesday 5 July at 10.00 – 1.00. Letters with further details will be sent home.

Senior Sports Day (Years 5, 6, 7 & 8) on Monday 11 July 13.30 - 15.30. If you wish to bring a picnic to share with your children beforehand on the field, please do so.

DOLPHIN NIGHT is on Thursday 14 July at 7.30pm in the school hall. This is the occasion where the school says farewell to our Year 8. All children from Year 5 to 8 are expected to attend for the evening wearing smart clothes please. Anyone who has won a trophy will be awarded it on this occasion. Some children younger than Year 5 will be invited to receive junior house trophies.

Year 8 and their parents are cordially invited to canapés and drinks in Ophelia’s garden (weather permitting) from 6.30pm onwards. Invitations to follow.

YEAR 6 PARTY is on Monday 11 July at 7.30 in the school hall. Invitations to follow.

Thank you to everyone who returned their club list for next term. The list will be on the club board in Reception by the end of next week. Please check carefully which clubs you child will be going to and the days. If you wish to make changes or have any problems with the booking, please see Vivien in the office rather than the teacher who is running the club. Whilst we make every effort to run the clubs we have offered, sometimes unforeseen circumstances oblige us to make changes.

Please would everyone return their library books by Friday 8 July. Thank you.

London Irish run several Rugby Summer Camps at various Berkshire locations in July and August. These are excellent courses and pretty reasonable too! See the sports board or the London Irish web site for details.

Unfortunately Holme Grange have had to cancel the Colts and lst Xl cricket matches on Wednesday 6 July.

Gabriela Eddy has some availability next term for clarinet and piano lessons. She is offering trial lessons on 6 July. If you are interested please drop a note to her into the school office.

Mrs Maltese, the singing teacher, is holding trial lessons on Wednesday 13 July for pupils who are interested in beginning singing lessons in September. Please leave your child’s name and contact details in Reception and Mrs Maltese will contact you. Individual 20 minute lessons will be £130.50 per term and group lessons are £87 per term for 2011/12.

Found – a black Nokia mobile in the field. It may have been there a while. Also an electronic alarm clock was left at the end of the Summer Fayre. Apply to Vivien.

Photographs: The deadline for ordering your school photos is the end of term. Please order direct from Tempest by post (details included in the pack). Unfortunately Tempest do not currently have the facility to order group photos on-line. Please do not return your order forms to school. If for any reason your child’s order pack didn’t make it home, spare packs will available in Reception from Monday. Full size prints are on display in school for you to view from today (Nursery, Reception & Year 1 are displayed in the classrooms and Years 2 – 8 and the sports teams are displayed in the school Reception).

Cricket Team photos are not available just yet, but will be on view in the photo gallery on the website shortly and prints will be on display in Reception together with an order form for you to complete if you would like copies.

PE Kit

From September Year 6, 7 and 8 girls will be allowed to wear a navy skort in PE lessons. The PE department will carry a stock of these for pupils to buy. They will cost £13 (this is cost price straight from the manufacturer). Please see Mrs. Hunt if you would like one of these. A sample is available to view in Reception.

A Base Layer (long sleeved, navy top will also be available for all pupils to buy if they wish. A sample is available to view in Reception. These will cost £14. For more details see Mrs. Hunt.

We have sent home Music Practice Sponsorship sheets with our instrumentalists to raise some of the additional funds needed for our very popular baby grand piano. We thought this might be a good incentive for more practice too! Please would you return the sponsorship forms and the money in a named envelope to Reception by Friday 8 July.

Art exhibition: Julian Renouf (artist in residence) is exhibiting some recent paintings in his studio from 18 June, every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9.00am – 8.00pm until 3 July. All are welcome. Address: Saddlestones, Perry Lane, Bledlow, Bucks, HP27 9QS. Leaflets and Bucks Open Studio booklets are available at Reception.

Arrangements for the end of term are as follows:

TERM ENDS ON FRIDAY 15 JULY

Reception & Year 1 11.00am

Years 2 & 3 11.30am

Years 4, 5 & 6 12.00pm

Years 7 & 8 12.30pm

You may take your older children earlier if it is convenient, but please collect the younger ones on time.

If your child is leaving Dolphin this term and you would like to donate any PE kit to the school, please would you wash and delabel it and give it to Reception or any member of the PE Department. Thank you. A second hand PE kit sale will be held early next term.

Please collect all medications from the Reception before the end of term, especially if you are leaving Dolphin. Any items left will be disposed of (with the exception of Epipens and inhalers).
