WEEKLY UPDATE AND CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO.491

Monday 24 October – Sunday 13 November 2011

ISSUED Friday 21 October 2011

ALL

We hope that you have an enjoyable break and our best wishes also go to all those staff, parents and children who will be away on one of the school trips to Northumbria, North Wales or Boulogne. The school is now closed for the next two weeks for Half Term and reopens on Monday 7 November. (The school office remains open.)

Parent and Toddler Sessions: Our successful free parent and toddler sessions in Nursery continue to run after Half Term, from 10.00am until 11.30am on Wednesday 9 and 16 November. There will be music, games, toys and plenty of coffee for the parents! Do come along.

Reception morning special: We are also offering a special session on Saturday 12 November, 9.30 – 11.30am, for any children who are Reception age in this current school year (Date of birth between 1.9.06 and 31.8.07). Activities on offer include cooking, learning in German and some sport. The children will take home a personalised photo album of their day plus their self-made biscuits! If you know of anyone with children of this age then please inform them of this opportunity.

School Photos: The photographer will be in school to take individual photographs of the children on Tuesday 8 November in the morning. Children will be called for in turn, so should go to registration as normal.

We are very pleased with our new water fountain, recently installed on the field. The water fountain was the project of last year’s School Council and was bought by FunRaisers. A big thank you goes to last year’s School Council, the FunRaisers for their support and Linda Charlesworth, Tony and Alex for installing it for us.

Chess: Dolphin is hosting one of the weekly chess tournaments that are arranged in schools in Berkshire on 29 October. If you would like to come and play against children from other schools then it begins at 1.00 and finishes at 5.00 pm. Check with the Berkshire Chess website for details.

This year’s School Council has been elected and our congratulations go to our new representatives: Erin Watts and

Micah Barendse in Year 4, Max Meadows and Melissa Scanlon in Year 5, Maya McCarthy and Paris Ferguson in Year 6, Charlotte Holt and Edward Fry in Year 7, and Clare Pearson and Hal Watts in Year 8. (Chantal – School Council leader.) We apologise that we listed some of the children in the wrong year group last week.

FunRaisers: are holding a Christmas wreath making evening on Wednesday 14 December at 7.30pm. Tickets are £20 and include tuition and materials for the festive wreath you will create and take home to keep. There will be complimentary mulled wine and mince pies available. Numbers are limited to 30 people and therefore places need to be confirmed and paid for in advance. Tickets are available in the school Reception.

The next Hot Lunch will be on Thursday 17 November organised by Year 5 and Reception.

The next FunRaisers meeting is Thursday 1 December, 7.30pm, in the History Room.

The repair of the potholes on the area outside the school entrance will now take place during half term. Our plans for repair have been delayed by the Thames Water work outside the school.

St Patrick's Community Church Hall, Charvil is under threat of closure. If you or your child/ren have links to St. Patrick’s as a drama or other group member, please access http://www.fostpat.webs.com/ for more details.
