WEEKLY UPDATE AND CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO.483

Monday 11July   -   Sunday 17July 2011

ISSUED Friday 8 July 2011

ALL

SPORTS DAY for Years 5 to 8 is on Monday 1.30-3.30pm. You are welcome to picnic on the field with your children, weather permitting. Kindly collect them from the form room, where they will have been registered.  There will be afternoon lessons for Years 4 and below.

ART EXHIBITION : You are warmly invited to view a display of children’s art work in the hall before and after sports day on Monday.

DOLPHIN NIGHT is on Thursday 14 July at 7.30pm in the school hall.   This is the occasion where the school says farewell to our Year 8.    All children from Year 5 to 8 are expected to attend for the evening wearing smart clothes please.   Anyone who has won a trophy will be awarded it on this occasion.   Some children younger than Year 5 will be invited to receive junior house trophies.   Children below Year 8 can expect to finish by 9.00pm and be collected then.

Year 8 and their parents are cordially invited to canapés and drinks in Ophelia’s garden (weather permitting) from 6.30pm onwards.   Invitations have been posted.   Please let us know how many will be in your party so we can reserve seats.

YEAR 6 PARTY is on Monday 11 July at 7.30 in the school hall.   Invitations to all Year 6 parents have gone out.

The list of children in each club for next term is on a new club board in Reception.   Please check carefully which clubs your child will be going to and the days.   If you wish to make changes or have any problems with the booking, please see Vivien in the office, rather than the teacher who is running the club.   Whilst we make every effort to run the clubs we have offered, sometimes unforeseen circumstances oblige us to make changes.

The deadline for return of library books was today .   A £6 charge will apply to books not returned by Wednesday 13 July.   Thank you.

Photographs :   Remember to send your school photo orders off by the end of term!   Please order direct from Tempest by post (details included in the pack).    Please do not return your order forms to school.   If for any reason your child’s order pack didn’t make it home, spare packs are available in Reception. Unfortunately there has been a delay in getting our Cricket Team photos taken due to match cancellations.   We plan to now take the photos at the house matches during the next few days. These will then be available for you to view on the website and sign up for copies via email. We may well then need to post these to you during the holidays.  Apologies.

Arrangements for the end of term are as follows:

TERM ENDS ON FRIDAY 15 JULY

Nursery, Reception & Year 1              11.00am

Years 2 & 3                                            11.30am

Years 4, 5 & 6                                        12.00pm

Years 7 & 8                                            12.30pm

You may take your older children earlier if it is convenient, but please collect the younger ones on time.

If your child is leaving Dolphin this term and you would like to donate any PE kit to the school, please would you wash and de-label it and give it to Reception or any member of the PE Department.   Thank you.   We have provisionally set a date for our second hand PE kit sale on Tuesday 13 September.

Please collect all medications from the Reception before the end of term, especially if you are leaving Dolphin.   Any items left will be disposed of (with the exception of Epipens and inhalers).

In an effort to get more boys and girls playing rugby next season, here are some useful contacts.   All these clubs run junior teams on Sunday mornings.   Practices start in September.

                -   Reading RFC (U6 – U17) Amanda Newman 0118 969 6592    youthchairman@Readingrfc.co.uk

                -   Maidenhead RFC (U7 – U17) Julian Rainford    07787 993733    julian.rainford@btinternet.com

                -   Henley RFC (U7 – U17) Martin Leach    01491 571847    mleach@aol.com

                -   Redingensians RFC 0118 969 5259

Furthermore, London Irish run several Rugby Summer Camps at various Berkshire locations in July and August.   These are excellent courses and pretty reasonable too!   See the sports board or the London Irish web site for details.

PE Kit

The PE Department is in the process of ordering a new football strip for the Under 8/9/10 & 11 teams in which they play fixtures against other schools.   The shirts are blue and have the Dolphin logo on the left breast.   We are seeking a sponsor who would be willing to contribute to the cost of the shirts and in return have their company logo displayed on the right breast or arm of the shirt.   Sponsorship is available for all the new shirts (approximately 70 shirts) or for just one team.   If you run, or work for, a business that would be interested, please contact Adam as soon as possible as we would like to order shirts by the end of term ready for the start of the football season.   The cost of each shirt is approximately £15 - £18.   A full sponsorship or a partial contribution to the cost would both be possible.

From September Year 6, 7 and 8 girls will be allowed to wear a navy skort in PE lessons.   The PE department will carry a stock of these for pupils to buy.   They will cost £13 (this is cost price straight from the manufacturer).   Please see Mrs. Hunt if you would like one of these.   A sample is available to view in Reception.   A Base Layer (long sleeved, navy top will also be available for all pupils to buy if they wish.   A sample is available to view in Reception.   These will cost £14.   For more details see

Mrs. Hunt.

Gardening club

Would gardeners please bring in a plastic bag and a medium sized cardboard box with which to carry home produce next Tuesday, last club of term.  The day of the week for next term’s gardening club will be confirmed before the start of next term.

Judy has selected her actors and marketing people for the Shakespeare in Schools Festival.  She would like to thank everyone who applied - she is only sorry that she cannot accept everyone.  A letter and the script will be going home with the company next week.  Rehearsals will take place on a Friday from 3:35 - 5:30pm.  As the production is before half term and we have so little time, I trust the actors will be able to make every rehearsal.
