WEEKLY UPDATE AND CALENDAR OF EVENTS NO.487

Monday 26 September - Friday 30 September 2011

ISSUED Friday 23 September 2011

ALL

FunRaisers would like to thank everybody who came to the Welcome BBQ last Friday. It was a lovely evening and a pleasant way to start the new school year. Thank you to all those who volunteered their time on the BBQ and Bar. A profit of just over £460 was raised from this event .

If you would like to know how FunRaisers uses the money raised from such events, or how you could help out at the next one, then please come along to the FunRaisers meetings. The next one is the AGM on Wednesday 28th September, 7.30pm, History Rm.

Reminder: Please note that skateboards, roller blades and the like are not allowed in school.

P.E. Kit Recycling: A big Thank You to all those who supported the second hand PE kit sale. It raised £220 which will be gratefully used by the P.E. Department.

It has come to the school’s attention that there is a growing concern nationally that children may be exposed to computer games that are above their recommended age. There is a particular game called ‘Call of Duty’ which carries an ‘18’ certificate that we would not recommend.

A reminder that the Maths Department will be running a parent friendly session on MyMaths, Tuesday 27 September at 3.00pm in the maths classrooms. The sign-up sheet for this is in Reception.

The FunRaisers AGM will be held on Wednesday 28 September, 7.30pm in the History Room. Please would all clippers try to attend. Thank you.

Choir will recommence on Tuesday 27 September.

Leighton Park Tournament on Saturday 8 October: The Year 5 and Year 6 girls have been given a sheet about the hockey coaching and fun tournament. Pupils who would like to attend please see Mrs. Hunt.

Opro Mouthguards are coming into school on Tuesday 27 September. These mouthguards are fitted by a qualified dentist. Pupils have been given a brochure about Opro.

If you have any Playmobil which is no longer played with and you would be happy to donate to the school, our Reception class would be very grateful.

Certain schools require an early registration for 13+ entry. We have been in contact with several schools and obtained the information below:

· Eton – you may register your child any time before the age of 10 years 6 months.

· Harrow – you may register your child up to 3 years in advance of entry, ideally by the summer of Year 5.

· Marlborough College – you may register your child any time after the summer of Year 4 and definitely by the September of Year 7.

· Rugby – you should register your child by the Spring of Year 5.

· St Paul's (for boys) – you should register your child by May of Year 5.

· Winchester College – you may register your child from the age of 8, and definitely by the summer of Year 5.

· Wycombe Abbey – you should register your child by the summer of Year 6.

· Reading Bluecoat – you should register your child as early as possible as registration is limited.

Please note that Independent School Inspectorate (ISI) now carries out Dolphin Inspections (including the Early Years Foundation Stage) as it does for all Independent Schools within the IAPS.

Please accept our apologies that there are still potholes at the entrance to the school. A permanent repair is going to be difficult to achieve as heavy plant is required to achieve this. We have arrangements for a temporary repair which should resolve the problem for some time, this will happen very soon.

Please take extra care when opening car doors in the car park. If you do knock someone else’s car, please would you be kind enough to report details to Reception. Thank you.

NURSERY

Forest School Trip on Wednesday 28 September, 9.00am – 12.00pm. Please ensure your child is wearing long trousers,, long sleeves, wellies and a waterproof coat.

YEAR 3

Mrs Lawson is still looking for a vehicle driver to take Year 3 to the Synagogue on Tuesday 8 November. Also, if anyone would like to come with Year 3 on Wednesday 19 October to visit Mrs Lawson’s Succah please let her know.

YEAR 5

Boulogne trip meeting on Thursday 29 September, 7.30 – 8.30pm, in the Hall. It is essential that at least one parent attends the meeting in order to give informed consent.

YEARS 5 & 6

Due to the fact that too many of the boys are not available, we will not be sending a Colts football team to the Leighton Park Tournament on Saturday 8 October. We will still be sending a 1st Team.

YEAR 6

We are going on a theatre trip on Thursday 29 September to see The Wild Bride at Oxford Play House . We will be leaving at lunchtime and be back about 6.00pm. It is difficult to give an exact time as the theatre hasn't yet been advised by the visiting theatre company. The children will eat their packed lunch at school and be back in time for dinner. They can take a small amount of money if they want to buy an ice-cream and a programme.

The art trip will now be on Tuesday 13 December to The Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford (not the Ashmolean on 7 November).

YEARS 6 & 7

Simon Callow performing Dickens' plays - Individual members and their families, who booked tickets, from the Dickens Club will meet Judy in the Oxford Playhouse foyer at 7.00pm on Saturday 24 September.

YEARS 6, 7 & 8

Actors in Macbeth are required for rehearsals at Dolphin during the weekend of 24 & 25 September. The marketing team is not required but they are very welcome to attend if they so wish. Please bring along snacks, drinks and lots of energy. It is very important that all actors attend these rehearsals as our performance dates are very close. Thank you.

Saturday: 9- 1:30pm

Sunday: 10-1:00

YEAR 7

There will be a Year 7 parents’ evening on Wednesday 9 November, apologies that this was not in the calendar.

Unfortunately, the theatre company has had to cancel its performance of The Terrible Infants on 4 October. We will now be going to see the production on Monday 3 October. Please let Judy know if your child is unable to make it. We will leave Dolphin at 6.00pm and return to school by approximately 10.00pm, but I will confirm our return time once I know the running times of the show. They should eat supper before we leave school, and are welcome to bring no more than £7.50 to buy an ice cream and a theatre programme. Judy

YEAR 8

Judy would really appreciate it if she could have all the Oscar statuettes back at school. So far, only a few have been returned.
