Year 1

Learning in Year One builds on the firm foundations established in Reception. The children spend most of their time in the secure and happy environs of their classroom with their own form teacher and assistant, but they also enjoy ICT, music and PE in other dedicated areas of the school with specialist teachers. This helps them to become accustomed to life further up the school. French, PE, Music and ICT are taught by subject specialists.

The learning branches out from different themes such as Houses and Homes, Under the Ground, River and Water, Living Things, and Materials and Forces. This allows for a rich programme of literacy, numeracy and science to develop and embraces other areas of learning such as the French, which is revisited and embellished from time spent in Reception, and the Integrated Studies programme, which combines history and geography. There is also still time for Art, CDT. Drama and Dance, which makes for a breadth of learning that helps the children to flourish.
