PSHE

PSHE stands for Personal, Social, Health and Education. It forms a large part of our pastoral care programme and is a discrete, timetabled lesson for all years from Nursery to Year Eight.

PSHE helps promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of each child at Dolphin, covering a wide range of important topics that help to enrich the children’s understanding of the wider world. It helps to prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. It not only widens a child’s mind about the world in which we live and how we interact with one another but also helps both to foster tolerance and empathy, and promote equality and freedom of thought and expression. All these allow children to develop into well-rounded young adults as they leave, who will be able to interact with society and care for the environment in which we live, helping to solve both local and far-reaching issues in today’s world and that of their future.

There is a large number of areas covered throughout the child’s time at Dolphin. These include healthy lifestyles, wellbeing, relationships, citizenship and living in the wider world.

Visits and visiting speakers are arranged as appropriate, for example internet safety workshops, including advice to parents on screen time. Year Six watch a theatre production on cybercrime and internet bullying. Year Eight have a special Leavers’ programme arranged in their final term which includes workshops from external speakers on drugs, sex, alcohol, careers advice, financial planning, the police force, keeping safe, first aid and others.

Community service and charitable work are also looked at in detail within the school mentoring and Delphic Challenge programmes.
