The Year Five trip to the Brecon Beacons is the first of the residential hill walking trips and aims to develop the children's enjoyment of the outdoors. Organisation and planning skills are established, as the children prepare their own rucksacks each morning, ensuring they have the appropriate gear for a day on the hills. There are opportunities for map reading, team work, paddling in the lakes and tower building. The three days include walks up Bannau Sir Gaer and Pen- y- Fan (the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons). Concluding the trip is the beautiful Ystradfellte Waterfall walk, where the children have an opportunity to walk behind a waterfall. We hope the children return home with a great sense of accomplishment, achievement and a personal satisfaction, having explored and appreciated the landscape around them.
