Y3 had a fantastic day at Brooklands Museum. They compared different ages of aircraft and spotted the changing materials used and the shape of wing design. We explored how racing cars have been designed for speed by changing the body shape to be more aerodynamic.  Everyone enjoyed sitting in a Formula One Racing car and imagining the wind in their hair.

We walked through Concorde and imagined First Class travel at the speed of sound! Fold back your wings and fly. We explored the size and amount of friction experienced by the wheels on landing.

In the afternoon we had a workshop to design racing cars and tested them on a downhill section of the Brooklands track. Followed by the excitement of launching our water rockets as part of their STEM Week challenges.

Finally we jumped into the Bus Museum and explored a variety of ages of buses including the conductor giving us all a ticket from his machine. Great excitement in the front seat of a double decker bus!

A day packed with the science of forces, air resistance and the effects of friction!
