Y6 North Wales Trip

This is a cross-curricular trip involving preparation by the History, Science and Geography departments.  We study the invasion of North Wales by Edward I and the geography of the area and how the topography of the land influenced the strategies of invaders.  We will study settlements and castles built by Edward I in his subjugation of the Welsh.  This trip is traditionally the one on which all Dolphins perfect their sketching techniques and, weather permitting, a large proportion of time will be devoted to drawing.  As part of the geography component we will undertake a river study, a village study and consider the impact of glaciation on the landscape. Lastly, we visit a slate mine and a hydroelectric pump storage station where the impact of industry on North Wales is considered.
