Y6 Lakes Trip

Back

This year, for the first time, we began our trip with a high wire treetop trail which the children found exciting and really quite challenging! We then had 2 days of fell walking, firstly up Cat Bells and High Spy with fantastic views over Derwent water and Keswick where our Youth Hostel is. The next day we climbed up Helvellyn starting from Ullswater. The strong gusty winds on Helvellyn made us opt to ascend via Swirral edge rather than Striding Edge but it was still very exciting. Hail and gales at the top did not diminish our sense of achievement. As a complete contrast we sent to Castlerigg stone circle for the evening between the walks. There, we had an opportunity to quietly reflect on the beauty around us and to record our observations and feelings. On the last day we took a steamer across Ullswater from Glenridding to How Town and the walked along the shoreline. Even though it was quite chilly and damp a couple of children kept the tradition of wading in the lake going for another year!
