The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking.
Dolphin's Earth Studies programme adopts an innovative approach to exploring global issues and our responsibilities towards Planet Earth.
We support our pupils in gaining a deeper understanding of the science of life on Earth and the options our young people have moving forward into adult life, in a balanced and mindful way. Earth Studies explores aspects of identity, the natural world, philosophy, science, mythology, globalisation, religion and spirituality and different beliefs. We draw on ideas from cultures across the globe, both ancient and modern.
Through Dolphin's Earth Studies programme, pupils develop their understanding and appreciation of the world around them. We aim to discover a deeper knowledge of how the world works and how our lives are interconnected. We consider how our life choices and consumer behaviour has a deep impact both locally and globally and how we can bring about change.
Earth Studies is taught to Year Three, Four and Five. Lessons are discursive in approach and there is often no right or wrong answer. We respond to the discussion amongst the group and respect everyone’s opinion and heritage. During the year we reflect on cultural events and festivals and through exploring different themes aim to develop awareness of world religions and their beliefs and discuss similarity and difference.
We encourage an open minded and reflective approach and include strategies that support mindfulness and positive thinking that can be applied across all aspects of their lives in and out of school.
