Cross-curricular

At Dolphin, learning comes alive through a rich, interconnected programme of experiences that extends far beyond the classroom.

Our pupils explore the real world through a structured and reciprocal series of day trips and residential visits that offer opportunities from walking Roman roads and delving into Victorian coal mines, to performing at the Edinburgh Fringe. These richly diverse experiences develop children’s curiosity, resilience, and teamwork, whilst making the curriculum tangible. This hands-on approach is complemented by the Dolphin Project Qualification (DPQ), a enquiry-based programme that encourages reflection, problem-solving, creativity, and independence while reinforcing our core values of Kindness, Freedom, Discovery, Challenge, and Confidence.

Outdoor learning through Forest School further enhances these skills, offering multi-sensory challenges that strengthen critical thinking, collaboration, and wellbeing in a holistic environment. Alongside these experiences, pupils engage with social responsibility initiatives, connecting with local and global communities to develop empathy, ethical awareness, and a sense of positive impact. Together, these cross-curricular opportunities ensure that children at Dolphin learn not just what to think, but how to think, collaborate, and act with confidence in the world around them.
