Forest School
Forest School provides a rich outdoor learning environment where pupils develop confidence, teamwork, and independence through purposeful, hands-on experiences. Children learn to use small tools safely, including those for simple woodworking and construction, building practical skills alongside responsibility, focus, and perseverance.
Many activities are designed collaboratively, requiring pupils to plan, problem-solve, and work together to achieve shared goals. Learning is closely connected to the classroom, with opportunities to recreate artistic masterpieces using natural materials, explore mathematical and scientific ideas through practical investigation, and develop storytelling and expressive language skills inspired by the natural world. The outdoor setting provides space for experimentation, discussion, and imagination, helping children to think critically and creatively in new ways.
Through challenge, reflection, and shared achievement, Forest School strengthens wellbeing, resilience, and self-belief, enriching children’s learning in ways that feel natural, memorable, and deeply engaging.
Shared thinking, independent thought; an abundance of ideas whizzing through the forest. Building houses, building relationships. Making fires, making friends. Chivvying the frustrated to be creative and the same in return. Bang, chop, rustle … silence. More, less, how big, how small, guess, assess … review and reflect; relax and breathe. Could learning be any more fun?
